We spoke with Marc Schreufer, Foreman for Ariosa & Company, about his entry into the trades, what he loves about the work, and what he enjoys away from the jobsite.
Marc, what attracted you to the trades?
“When I was young, my career path was not yet set in stone. I began working in retail sales at AutoZone, which was not a bad start, but not what I wanted to do forever. At a family cookout, I expressed my lack of passion for AutoZone to my cousin Chris. At that time, Chris was a journeyman plumber working in the field for JZ Systems. He said if I was serious about having a lifelong career, meet him at his job the next day. At 6 a.m., the following morning, I applied, and the following afternoon, I was hired as an apprentice. Thirteen years later, I have zero regrets and owe it to my cousin Chris.”
So what’s your favorite part of the job?
I get charged up when we hit that “impossible task” – and we get it done. When our industry partners or general contractors say “I don’t know how you guys are going to do that” – that’s when we take it up a notch. It could be something as simple as setting a pipe in a bad location or hitting an impossible deadline on time. Just being able to use our knowledge and expertise to make something deemed impossible into a reality is my favorite, and most proud, part of the job.
Away from the job, what’s life like?
I have been married to my beautiful wife, Eliana, for 14 years, and recently, we had our first child. Madison is my world. I’m a huge fan of both the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. I also enjoy an occasional paintball challenge, and I’m looking forward to one day having a company paintball outing.
Marc, we appreciate the passion and dedication you have on each and every project you take on. Now about that paintball challenge, we are working to get this on the calendar! Keep being the example you are to others and know that you are a vital team member here at Ariosa.
